What's the difference between inline and reference links?

Inline links put the URL next to the text: [text](https://example.com). Reference links use a label: [text][1] with a separate definition [1]: https://example.com at the bottom of the doc. Reference style keeps prose readable in long documents where the same URL appears many times.

Which label style should I use?

Numeric ([1], [2]) is compact and standard. Slug ([cloudflare-workers]) is human-readable. Letters ([a], [b]) is distinctive for short documents. Pick whatever keeps your document readable.

Does it de-duplicate URLs?

Yes. If the same URL appears in multiple inline links, only one reference definition is written, and every link points to the same label.

Are image links (![alt](url)) affected?

No. Only text links are converted. Image references are left as inline syntax since they rarely duplicate.
