Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By using freemarkdowntools.com (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EU) to use the Service; if you are younger, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or guardian.

2. Description of the Service

The Service is a collection of free, browser-based markdown utilities — converters, generators, editors, cleaners, and analyzers. The Service is provided by Shashwat (the "Company", "we", "us", "our"). Most tools run entirely in your browser using JavaScript; a few heavy conversions (PDF, DOCX, image) are processed on our Cloudflare Worker infrastructure and discarded within seconds without being stored.

3. Your account

An account is optional. Every tool on the site works without an account. If you choose to create an account, you agree to:

• Provide accurate information during registration.
• Maintain the confidentiality of your password.
• Be responsible for all activity under your account.
• Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in fraud, abuse other users, or use the Service in ways that harm the infrastructure or reputation of the Service.

4. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to use the Service to:

• Process, store, or transmit illegal content, including content that infringes copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other intellectual property rights.
• Attempt to abuse, overload, or bring down the Service (denial-of-service, excessive automation, rate-limit evasion).
• Use automated clients or scrapers in ways that bypass our rate limits or exceed reasonable usage.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from our closed-source components.
• Impersonate any person or entity.
• Use the Service to transmit content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, abusive, fraudulent, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.
• Use the Service in any manner that violates any applicable law or regulation.

5. Intellectual property

Your content

You own your markdown. Every document you paste into a tool remains your property. You grant us no license to your content beyond the transient processing needed to produce the output you requested (which happens in your browser for client-side tools, and in a Cloudflare Worker that immediately discards the content for server-side tools).

You own the output. Every HTML file, Markdown file, plain text file, JSON AST, PDF, DOCX, or other artifact produced by our tools is yours, to use in any personal or commercial context, without attribution, royalty, or license fee.

Our content

The Service itself — including its source code, design, branding, and documentation — is owned by the Company. Some components (like the Markdown parser marked, the HTML-to-Markdown converter turndown, and others) are open-source libraries licensed under MIT or similar. We reserve all rights not expressly granted in these Terms.

The Service's trademarks (including "freemarkdowntools.com" and the site's visual identity) are owned by the Company. You may not use them in a way that suggests endorsement without our prior written permission.

6. Free usage and ads

The Service is free to use for all visitors, registered or not. The tools are free to use without any limitations.

7. Privacy

Your use of the Service is subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using the Service, you agree to our Privacy Policy.

The short version of our privacy stance: your markdown never leaves your device on client-side tools; server-side tools process and discard content within seconds; we don't track you across the web; we don't sell or share personal data.

8. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party infrastructure (Cloudflare for hosting and CDN, Resend for transactional email, ad providers for monetization). Their terms of service also apply when you interact with features that touch those services. We are not responsible for the availability, content, or practices of third-party services.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
• Every tool will produce perfect output for every input.
• The Service will meet your specific requirements.
• Defects in the Service will be corrected.
• The Service is free of viruses or other harmful components (though we use standard security practices).

You use the Service at your own risk. For mission-critical workflows, always verify the output of any tool before using it in production. The tools are meant for drafting, prototyping, and casual use — not for safety-critical applications.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Company shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100). Since the Service is free to use, for most users this cap is effectively $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Company and its affiliates from any claim, demand, loss, or damages, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of:

• Your violation of these Terms.
• Your violation of any rights of a third party.
• Your use of the Service in violation of any law.
• Content you submit to or process through the Service (though we remind you we don't store your content — this clause is a legal formality).

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. If you have an account, you may delete it instantly from your dashboard — no waiting period, no customer service call.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service (or your account) at any time, with or without notice, for any reason — including violation of these Terms. Upon termination, the rights and licenses granted to you in these Terms will immediately cease.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we'll notify registered users via email at least 30 days before the new Terms take effect. Your continued use of the Service after a Terms update constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or related to these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of India.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you may benefit from mandatory provisions of your local consumer protection law; these Terms do not override those rights.
